The Friday Photo: Bedouin Girl
This is Anoud, 2, with her great-grandfather, Mohammed, 93, looking at a picture of him in his British Army uniform from World War II.
They live with our guide Shadi and 20-or so other relatives in one of the villages to which the Jordanian government moved the Bedouin of Petra.
Anoud is a happy little soul, and hugely loved by all her large family. Society has changed beyond all imagining in Mohammed’s lifetime, and I wonder whether, when Atoul becomes a woman, her horizons will be broader than the Bedouin girl we met in Sinai.
The great grandfather Mohammed has passed away end of May 2013, and is greatly missed by all.
I’m sorry to hear that, Maryam. I’m sure he is very much missed by all his vast family.
Thank you Theodora, yes, we all miss him very much. Also the little girl’s name is not Atoul, but Anoud.
Gosh, that’s embarrassing. Thank you. I’ve corrected it.
