The Friday Photo: Bedouin Ingenuity

Back when we did our Sinai desert trip, we came across this amazing table.

Get a load of it!

In its stylish, zinc clad elegance, casually laid on a Bedouin camel hair carpet at our camp in the desert, it looked like something from a Manhattan loft apartment circa 1992.

But…

Can you guess what it’s made from?

No?

How about now?

Triangular zinc table on Bedouin carpet in the Sinai.

Still no?

How about now?

Upturned table reveals itself to be a steep bend road sign.

Yes, those crazy Bedouin have indeed been uprooting road signs, hammering them out and turning them into tables for guests.

And, even after our car crash this week, I still find this more funny than not.

You see, for all the danger and frustration, I do like Egypt very much.
